FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Fine Art Wooden Urns?

Fine Art Wooden Urns is a Midwestern American family-owned cremation urn provider. All I use are the rarest, most beautiful exotic woods available. I hand-select each wood block, then create the most original handmade functional fine art available.

I have over 200 urns, with 40 currently posted online. Stock rotated monthly.

What size of urn do I need?

Excellent question. The general rule of thumb is that approximately one (1) cubic inch of urn space is needed for every pound of the person's body weight (up to 220 c.i.)

However, this is an estimate and can vary slightly

depending on factors such as:

  • Bone density: People with denser bones may produce slightly more ashes.
  • Cremation process: Different cremation methods can result in varying amounts

Where do you get these rare domestic and exotic woods?

Tree species that produce the best wood blocks typically grow in specific regional areas of our country, according to the climate ranges, soil types, and terrain conditions. Wild Cherry burl is from Pennsylvania, Maple burl from Oregon, Desert Ironwood and Turquoise from Arizona.

I cut and harvest local wood blocks myself, then trade online to woodworkers in other regions of the USA and the world. By doing this, we all have varied inventories of the rarest and most beautiful turning blocks available for turning our art.

Creating fine art for preserving memories of your family.

Are tax fees included in the listed totals?

Governments impose taxes to fund essential services for their residents. In Olathe, Kansas, the standard sales tax rate is 9%. While I offer free USA shipping, the responsibility for these taxes lies with the family of the loved one.

Do you offer payment plans?

At Fine Art Wooden Urns, I am committed to providing one-of-a-kind handmade cremation urns to families in their time of need. I believe that every family deserves to say goodbye to their loved one with dignity. I make this possible by offering pre-need order discounts, payment plans, service worker and military discounts. Call today and inquire about these.

I do offer reductions for multiple purchase orders as listed below, in addition to other coupon reductions:

  • The fourth purchase on the same order reduces the amount by 10%.
  • The sixth purchase on the same order reduces the amount by 15%.
  • The eighth purchase and any more on the same order reduces the amount by 20%.

Final Note

Fine Art Wooden Urns offers a variety of cremation urns, including traditionally shaped and more "artistic" urns, double-occupancy, large, mid-sized, and smaller keepsakes. I also make ceremonial trays in a similar style to match the urn for your home.

All of my handmade art is to help you honor and to cherish the memory of your loved one.

Domestic woods are from the USA. Exotic woods are from anywhere else.

Domestic Woods from the USA

Maple Burl is commonly used with many of my bowls because once fully cured, it is very stable.

  • Curly, Birdseye, spalted, and burly with color variations from cream to red to brown.

HONEY LOCUST becomes more beautifully rich as time passes, and typically has wild figures or burls.

  • Very hard, brittle wood that finishes to a fine gloss.
  • While camping as a boy, a thorn from a Locust tree went through my foot. Very painful!

WALNUT is another staple wood for my artwork, especially for a dark contrast against lighter woods, like Holly or Ash burl.

The number of wood species I have available is vast. I use only the most figured wood blocks, usually from the "crotch" of two branches, the gnarly compressed areas of the trunk, and from burl knots. The uglier the wood... the better. I hand-select each and every block.

  • Burls knots are wildly figured, the most valuable, and extremely rare in trees.
  • Basically they are like warts, usually caused by stress from injuries, infections, or environmental factors.

DOMESTIC WOODS ARE FROM THE USA. EXOTIC WOODS ARE FROM ANYWHERE ELSE.

Exotic Woods from the World

AMBOYNA BURL is a cultured  from the Narra Rosewood Tree grown in Southeast Asia.

  • "Humanly altered" for hundreds of years to grow beautiful burl knots.
  • This wood is considered a 30-year harvested plant.

ZEBRA WOOD from Central Africa is an excellent contrast wood.

PURPLEHEART from Brazil is another very hard wood that finishes to a beautiful fine gloss.

  • Keep this Rosewood out of direct sunlight, as it might turn from purple to a light brown.

I have been collecting wood blocks for over 20 years, and have a huge stock inventory of 400+ species. I am limited only by my imagination.

Accidental Drop, Break or Scratch

Things fall and break. Sometimes at the most inconvenient times and ways. Small breaks and scratches are normally "fixable". Nearly always. There are times though, when the damage is just too great. Here's what to do if this happens.

  1. The first right step is to contact me immediately.
  2. Take pictures of the damage, then text or email these to me.
  3. If it's fixable, I will request that you send all the pieces, including the lid.
  4. If the urn can be fixed, I am the best person to do it.

  • Fixing it yourself will void all warranties.

NOTE: If a replacement urn is necessary, I will definitely offer a reasonable discount for the new one.
